IVF - In Vitro Fertilization
One of the most successful options for building the family of your dreams.
In Vitro Fertilization IVF At Dallas - Fort Worth Fertility Associates
In Vitro Fertilization (IVF) is the process in which an egg is combined with sperm in a controlled environment to enhance the chance of fertilization and is then transferred back to the intended mother or gestational carrier. IVF is one of the most widely-known types of assisted reproductive technology and is one of the most successful options available to patients today.
What Can I Expect During IVF?
During IVF, a patient’s natural menstrual cycle is manipulated through the use of fertility medications. These medications stimulate the ovaries to produce a number of mature eggs. When the follicles of the ovary are fully developed, a trigger shot is injected and eggs are retrieved two to three days later. Simultaneously, sperm is collected from the male partner (or donor sperm is thawed) and they are placed together in a petri dish in the lab for fertilization. Once fertilization has taken place, the resulting embryo is monitored for proper growth and tested for genetic abnormalities. When the embryos have grown sufficiently, they are placed back into the uterus of the intended mother or gestational carrier for implantation.
